SECTION 1: JUNE – OCTOBER (DRY SEASON)

Best Time for Elephant Herds & River Gatherings

Discover the best time to visit Tarangire National Park for incredible wildlife viewing, including peak elephant season, dry-season game concentrations.

From June to October, Tarangire National Park becomes a wildlife hotspot as the dry season draws animals from surrounding areas into the park. During this time, the Tarangire River becomes the primary water source, attracting large concentrations of wildlife.

This is the best period to witness massive elephant herds—one of Tarangire’s biggest highlights. Herds of up to 300 elephants can often be seen digging for water in dry riverbeds or gathering along the creating spectacular safari moments.

In addition to elephants, visitors can expect to see zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, buffalo, and predators such as lions and leopards that follow the herds. The thinning vegetation improves visibility, making wildlife easier to spot and ideal for photography.

Unlike the busier Serengeti National Park, Tarangire offers a quieter and more exclusive safari experience during these months, even at peak season.
